Introducing the R³ Collection
Step into the world of R³, where textile and print collide in a vibrant explosion of creativity. Let’s delve into the story behind the brand and its innovative approach to transforming deadstock into playful accessories.
The Birth of R³
R3 emerged from a vision to preserve important fabrics from the fashion industry by tackling one of its biggest challenges: waste. Born in the heart of London's creative scene, this brand is the brainchild of a forward-thinking team who saw potential where others saw discards.
The concept behind R³ is simple yet powerful: reduse, reuse, recycle. But we also like to think of it as: reimagine, repurpose, and revitalize. By taking unwanted materials and transforming them into something you can use daily, in this way, R³ proves that your conscience and style can coexist harmoniously.
At its core, R³ is more than just a collection of bags; it's a movement. It challenges the traditional fashion cycle and encourages consumers to rethink their relationship with consumption. Moreover, C4Boom, the parent company, provides the perfect platform for this innovative approach to thrive.
From Deadstock to Fashion Forward

The Look Don't Touch Bag also known as The LDT Bag in 3 mix and matched colours
The journey from deadstock to dynamic fashion is at the heart of R³'s ethos. Deadstock, once considered a burden in the fashion industry, becomes the raw material for R³'s creative process.
This transformation begins with careful curation. R³'s designers are able to work with a treasure trove of high-quality fabrics and materials that would otherwise go to waste. These forgotten treasures become the canvas for the brand. All the materials used so far were woven in the UK by Stephen Walter’s in Sudbury, Suffolk. All the designs are customs designs not found at a fabric trade show. They were all made for the eponymous brand, Alexander Lewis, who is also the mind behind the creation of R³.
Through innovative and skilled craftsmanship, R³ breathes new life into these materials. Laying the pattern pieces on the remnants of material to squeeze out as many units as possible. The result? Unique, limited-edition pieces that tell a story of rebirth and creativity. For a glimpse into some of the thinking and research behind R³ visit their Pinterest boards and follow or re-pin.
Above all, R³'s approach not only reduces waste but also challenges the notion of 'new' in fashion. By giving deadstock a second life, pieces are created that are both fresh and nostalgic, appealing to fashion enthusiasts who crave originality and exclusivity.
Going even further, all the component used to make R³ accessories are themselves deadstock, repurposed for use. The zippers, the binding, the care labels, and trims. Everything was potential waste, even the new brand labels are made from waste plastic that has been repurposed anew.
Crafting Modern Style
R³'s approach to fashion is as unique as its products. This section delves into the brand's production philosophy and the artistry behind their upcycling process.
What's behind a name?
For R³, the naming of their products is very important. R³ like the names to be playful and evocative, bringing to mind specific pastimes and activities you might find yourself engaged with while using the bag.
As an example the cleverly named LDT bag which stands for 'Look, Don't Touch' - inviting passersby and friends to look and enjoy the bag in all its aesthetic splendou but don't put a grubby mitt near the bag or its contents. As such it is like two bags in one, a mini-tote for all occasions and a drawstring liner that pops out the top to conceal and protect everything inside the back from prying eyes or sticky fingers. Safety First!

There is also the Sip 'n' Snack bag. Cleverly named for a variety of things you might carry in it. Wine, baguettes, champagne or juices. This bag is meant for picnics in the park, gifting a pair of vintage bottles, or just carrying a host gift when you are on your way to a dinner party. They aren't mean't to be serious, but they are seriously fun.

Micro-Batches and Limited Editions
R³'s production model revolves around the concept of micro-batches and limited editions. This is a strategy that sets them apart in the fast-fashion dominated market. This approach allows for greater creativity, while reducing waste, and offers customers truly unique pieces.
Micro-batches mean that each design is produced in small quantities. Often no more than a dozen pieces. Sometimes as little as a single unique piece. This limited production run ensures that each item remains special and exclusive.
The limited edition nature of R³'s products creates a sense of urgency and exclusivity. Most fashion enthusiasts know that if they don't act fast they will miss out limited pieces. In other words, this model also allows R³ to be more responsive to trends and customer feedback. They can quickly adapt their designs.
Moreover, micro-batches align perfectly with R³'s responsibility goals. By producing in small quantities, they minimise the risk of overproduction and unsold inventory, and above all, they offer continuous work to the factory that sews for them.

The Art of Up-Cycling
Up-cycling is at the core of R³'s creative process, transforming what was once considered waste into something new. This approach not only reduces environmental impact, but also results in story-rich pieces.
The process begins with sourcing. R³'s team carefully selects high-quality deadstock materials, each with its own history and character. These might include surplus fabrics from luxury brands, vintage textiles, or even industrial materials repurposed for fashion.
Next comes the design phase. R³'s designers approach each piece as a blank canvas, letting the unique properties of the materials guide their creativity. They might combine different patterns, play with unconventional cuts, or even make unique adjustments to a style to suit the fabric used.
The final step is production. Skilled artisans with longstanding relationships with the brand bring the designs to life. Each piece is crafted with care, often incorporating handmade elements unique to that specific unit. The result is a collection of items that are not just bags, but wearable stories of transformation and creativity.
Embracing C4Boom's Vision
R³ is more than just a brand; it's a key player in C4Boom's mission to slow down fashion. This section explores how R³ embodies C4Boom's values and its impact on everyday fashion.
Made-in-London Appeal
R³'s commitment to local production is a cornerstone of its identity. 'Made-in-London' is the ethos that sets R³ apart in a globalised fashion industry. This approach not only ensures quality but also supports the local economy and reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance shipping.
The 'Made-in-London' label carries with it a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship. It speaks to a rich tradition of British design and manufacturing in London. Combine this with the cutting-edge creativity that the city is known for, and you have a match made in heaven. R³ taps into this heritage while pushing boundaries with their innovative use of materials.
Local production also allows for greater control over the manufacturing process. R³ can ensure fair labor practices and maintain high quality standards, aspects that are increasingly important to conscious consumers. What’s more, access to the factory is easy by public transport. In addition, production runs are so small they don’t even require shipping, and can be hand carried. Importantly, this style of production aligns perfectly with C4Boom's vision of manufacturing in fashion.
Moreover, being based in London gives R³ direct access to a vibrant fashion scene. They can quickly respond to emerging trends and collaborate with local artists and designers, keeping their collections fresh and relevant.
